Instruction & Management
Nothing is more rewarding than seeing students passionate about what they are learning. The entire class becomes quiet as everyone is so in tune with the activity at hand. A productive, engaged atmosphere is what I strive for in my art classroom. To accomplish this, I build strong connections with each of my students. When a student walks into my art classroom I want them to feel the welcoming, productive culture of the studio. As students are participating in class discussion, Socratic seminar, and choice based art projects they build intrinsic motivation. Students having a stake in their learning and art processes is paramount in my studio environment.
Accomplishing Engaging Instruction
-Classroom Discussion about Artists in History
-Gallery Walks
-Choice Based Projects
-New mediums & art techniques being used in inventive ways
-Variety of assessments & instruction
Classroom Culture
-Building relationships with every student
- Providing students with leadership roles by assigning a rotation of jobs for each table group
-Students will be grouped strongest learners with those who need more assistance to promote community and collaboration
I want to provide a safe and respectful environment for all learners. Students in my classroom will learn to effectively hone leadership roles by being assigned rotating tasks. Through this process, collaboration skills and an independent attitude will be fostered as students are responsible for looking out for each other. Students who need more support will be in table groups with stronger learners. This ensures students can continue to build those collaborative skills. Additionally, as students are teaching each other, their understanding of the concept grows deeper. Students in art are learning the 21st century skills that are going to help them be successful in whatever they do.
