Setting & Context
My second placement for student teaching was at Thompson Valley High School in Loveland, CO. We strive to provide lifelong learning experiences. Students are welcoming and ready to learn professional art techniques. We provide a personal learning experience with smaller classes, on average less than 24 students per teacher. In the art room there is an average of about ten students per teacher for a very personal learning experience.
Like most of Colorado schools, the largest percentage of the student body is Caucasian. The next leading race at 18% is students of Hispanic origins. 21% of the student body qualifies for free or reduced lunch. This is slightly lower than the state average.
The community that the school is in has a strong sense of support for the arts. Students can witness practicing studio artists with lots of local artists and the Benson Sculpture Garden in close proximity. We teach students about exhibiting their own work at local galleries and museums.
